ICe cream party!
The girls in Senior Infants enjoyed a lovely ice cream party as a reward for their super behavior during the month of June, and as a celebration of the end of the school year. The girls got to choose between ice cream and an ice lolly and also got chocolate sauce, sprinkles and a flake. Yum!
School Tour Day
The girls had an amazing day today, we enjoyed petting and cuddling the animals from Wooly’s Farm who visited the school today. We then had a picnic outside and at the end of the day we had a visit from the ice cream van and enjoyed 99’s on the playground.
Summer planting
Today the girls went and did some gardening in our outdoor classroom. Each girl got her own pot which we filled with soil, we then headed back inside to put seeds in the soil and add some water to them. We hope that by the end of the school year they will have bloomed into beautiful flowers for the girls to take home. We also planted some parsley and more flowers which we hope to transfer to the beds in the school garden at the end of the year.
Mad Hatters Competition
On Friday the girls all took part in the Mad Hatters Competition. All the girls hats looked absolutely amazing and it is clear how much effort was put into each and every one. Hats off to Mrs. Carroll for organising the competition!
Easter nests
World Down Syndrome Day
On Monday the 22nd of March we celebrated World Down Syndrome Day by wearing odd socks and doing a short fun run around the yard. We also enjoyed a performance by 4th class of ‘Crazy Love’ and ‘You’ve got a Friend in me’.
Christmas Fun
Today was a very magical time in Senior Infants we made reindeer food for the reindeer with lots of special and magical ingredients. To finish off the day we had hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows.
Free Writing and Dance Friday
Senior Infants have just started using the Free Writing boxes that Ms. Clarke kindly made up for us. Every girl in the class got to pick one thing from her pods box to write on. Each girl was allowed to write anything she liked on her page and take it home. Most girls chose to write letters to their Mammys, Daddys, cousins, aunties, uncles etc. They did a great job writing independently! Today was also Dance Friday where the girls got to dance along to their favourite songs with their dance wands.
A Look Back at October...
October was a busy month for the girls in Senior Infants. We went on a nature walk around the school grounds and collected Autumn leaves. We listened to the birds in the trees, and we painted our own Autumn trees in class. The girls also made lovely drawings with the rest of the girls at their table all about the nursery rhyme 'Hickory Dickory Dock'. The girls have also been playing with our lovely new wooden Jaggo blocks and have been able to build some lovely things with them.
European School Sports DayFriday the 25th of September was European School Sports Day. Ms. Sherwin and Ms. Shaughnessy organised some lovely sports activities for us to do in the morning. First we ran hurdle races on the racetrack, next we played Fruit Salad, Duck Duck Goose and Follow the leader on the yard, we danced to music using our new dance wands and finally we played a new game called Queenie Queenie. The girls had a lovely time. In the afternoon we did lots of mindfulness and wellbeing activities and watched a movie.

Our Amazing Art!
The girls in Senior Infants worked very hard on their art over the last two weeks. The girls applied all the work we did on pattern in maths when drawing trees with crazy patterns. They drew them with pencil first and then went over their drawings with black marker. They then coloured in their trees with crayon and painted the rest of their picture with their watercolour paints. Well done girls!

First Week of Senior Infants
The girls in Senior Infants have had a great week back in school. On Monday I took a photo of each girl and they all decorated their own flowers. Today I put all the flowers up on our classroom door. See if you can spot any of your lovely daughters amongst the flowers! This week we did lots of games focused on improving our listening skills like 'Simon Says' and 'Fruit Salad'. We did lots of counting, practiced our nursery rhymes and used our pencils to do some prewriting. We took a visit to the outdoor classroom for a bit of play and storytime where we learned about Hairy Maclary and his friends adventures. The girls have adapted to our new hand washing and sanitizing routine excellently and are enjoying playing with their classmates again.

Hi Everyone 😄
Thank you all for the fabulous pictures and emails this week. It was great to see the girls taking part and having fun at home. If you would like to see any pictures, there are loads on the Active Schools Page of the website. This week is our very last full week in school & we have decided to make it another fun week and to run some cooking competitions. Ms. Quigg will have lots of information, pictures and recipes on the Cooking Club Page. We would love to see pictures of you all helping cook at home. There is also a competitions on the Home Page for parents to win a cookery book.
I have also attached links below about water safety which would be great to read as the summer holidays are only a glimpse away now!
eBook on Water Safety- https://online.flowpaper.com/7efd0784/PAWS1ENGLISHWEB/#page=12
Quiz & games on Water Safety- microsites.edco.ie/paws/units/49/chapters/192/activities/multiplechoicequiz/912/
Zoom - I would love to see all of the girls again before the summer holidays begin. To make the Zoom calls more manageable, I have decided to split them into 2-3 groups. Myself and one other teacher will be online for the calls. We would love for the girls to make a choice on what they would like to speak about on the zoom call.
Option 1: Tell us all one short piece of news.
Option 2: Show & Tell - show us something at home you think we would like to see and learn about. (they often chose a toy) Practice at home speaking about;
(a) What is it? Example: It is a teddy.
(b) Where did it come from? Example: My grandad bought it for me.
(c ) When did you get it? Example: I was only 2 years old and take really good care it.
(d) Does it have a name? Example: My teddy name is Freddy
(e) What does it look like? Example: It is a really tiny teddy. I thought it was big when i was small but now it seems to look smaller as i grow bigger.
(f) Why do you love this toy so much? Example: I like to hug my teddy at night or when I'm upset and it makes me feel better/ its so colourful and it looks nice/ I play lots of games with my teddy .. ect.
(g) Is there anything else you would like to tell us about the teddy? Example: my teddy has different outfits and I play dress up/ its eye fell off and I got it sewn back on/ I lost it in Tesco one day but someone handed it into the person at the check outs and luckily I got it back..ect.
We will then allow the girls a chance to ask questions if they would like they can click 'raise my hand'.
If your daughter would like to take part in a zoom call & see her friends, please email me by 2:30pm on Tuesday and I will confirm the time for the call on Wednesday. 😄
I'm really looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday,
Ms. Buckley.

Hello Everyone,
I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Still missing you all loads! I do have some nice news for you all. Last week was meant to have been your first Sports Day ever in primary school. On this day we usually do different P.E. activities all day long! We have all decided to have sports week this week instead. Each day we will post lots of ideas on the Active school page.
Monday will focus on running, Tuesday will focus on jumping, Wednesday will focus on Throwing and Thursday will focus on traditional sports day games. On Friday, we will give you a sample timetable to follow for a virtual sports day. Here you will choose your 5 favourite activities that you have tried during the week to complete along with some teacher challenges.
Go to the active school page every day to find your tasks!
👩🏻🍳 As well as this, Junior Master Chef will have a healthy twist this week! Try to cook or bake something super healthy that you could maybe have as a snack or lunch during sports week!
👩🏽🎨 If you go to the Learning from Home page you can read about a new poster competition that you can enter if you like.
As always, feel free to send in pictures of getting active, cooking, or of your art !
Have a great week,
Ms. Buckley.😄

Cora's Caterpillar to Butterfly Journey
At the end of March you learned all about The Butterfly Life Cycle at home. Cora's family bought a live butterfly garden and were kind enough to share their whole journey with us all. It was so exciting watching the butterfly life cycle in such detail. I knew a lot of you also adore butterflies and would be very interested in seeing week by week what happened in Cora's butterfly garden. Below you will find loads of pictures, week by week & even two videos at the end.
I hope you all enjoy looking at them as much as I did!
I hope you all enjoy looking at them as much as I did!
Week 1 -
Have a look at how tiny they are at the start of the week in comparison to the end of the week! They are also starting to spin their silk.
Week 2-
They have grown huge within only one week. A lot of silk can be seen and they are preparing to make each of their own chrysalis. Picture number 3 shows them hanging in their chrysalis.
Week 3 -
Look at the patterns and detail on the chrysalides. They have now been put into their new home in preparation for them to develop into butterflies!
Week 4 -
Last Sunday Cora & her family saw 3 of their butterflies emerge from their chrysalides and the remaining two emerged on the Monday . The chrysalides go quite dark the day before they emerged & the butterflies came out very quickly. Cora's mom even sent a video of the last butterfly emerging.
I will also put this up below. Cora & her brothers named the butterflies Fred, Tom, Timmy, Lily and Becky. They even got to hold the butterflies for a while before they flew away.

3rd - 5th of June, 2020.
Hello Everybody,
We are into our final month of school. I really want to thank you all for the huge efforts and support over the whole year, but especially in the last few months. It's fantastic to see all of the work and activities you are all doing at home. In June we usually do a lot of revision in class, consolidating everything the girls have learned all year. I have attached a file below and some links to support the work as usual.
📸 If you have any pictures since March of things the girls enjoyed doing & would like to share please feel free to send them in. I will do a little slideshow each week. These pictures do not have to be based on school work, they can be pictures while out for walks, cycles, scooting, dressing up, experiments, drawing , painting, cooking, playing.. etc. I have loved receiving all of the photographs of different activities since March & I have replied to these emails individually already but if you were happy to share them on the website with the girls friends, please resend them to me 😄
As always, I hope you all have a great week. If you have any questions, feel free to email with them and I will get back to you as soon as possible!

Writing📝
Below is some information on writing & some very useful websites for writing 😄
A website that supports our handwriting scheme and is used daily in school is linked below in two different links.
This first link contains letters: e, t, a, o, i, n, s, h
http://data.cjfallon.ie/resources/gwtf-handwriting/index.html#!/book-sections/0/section-activities/2
This second link contains letters: r, d, l, u, c, m, f, b, g, y, p, w, v, k, x, j, q, z

This is the matching game. The girls can practice matching print letters to
its cursive partner.
To write, click 'Letter Formation' on the homepage. The following pictures will show you how to get to the full writing stage online.
Here is a quick list of the letters your daughter uses
These are the letters we use in throughout the entire school for writing. I have colour coded them to group them together.
🦒Giraffe letters (Red lines ) - These letters are tall letters and are nearly double the height of other letters.
🐒 Monkey-tail letters (Blue dots) - These letters always go underneath the line. In class we talk about a money sitting on a branch and his tail hanging underneath the branch (the branch being the line).
🙂 Smiley face letters (Green dots) - These letters finish with a shape, resembling drawing a smiley face. This is essential to join the letters together in a word. I will post samples of errors to watch out for with these letters. Although, these may seem like very small errors, they could slow down the process of writing in the future. Infants is the easiest time to correct any writing habits.☺️ Please see below for samples of these letters.

Easter 🐰🐣
Hello Everyone,
It has been lovely hearing from you all and receiving the pictures & videos over the last few days. If you would like to see the pictures of your friends Butterfly art, there is a slideshow below. I am also going to insert another slideshow of other art girls have been sending in, so the girls can see what their friends have been getting up to over the past few weeks. This is totally optional.
A lot of people have suggested the YouTube channel 'Art for Kids Hub' which I will link below. All art is a fantastic & fun way of practicing fine motor skills. If any of you have any other suggestions that you think would be beneficial to other children, feel free to send me an email and I will share them up here on our class page.

Free virtual books- https://bookflix.digital.scholastic.com/home?authCtx=U.794217314
⬆︎ This website has a huge variety of free online books. There is no need for any account to be set up either. The website reads the book to your daughter, while highlighting the words in the book. Your daughter can then try reading the page after hearing the computer read each page to her, and click words she may have forgotten. There are also activities and games related to each book. These will help the girls practice essential reading skills. I would highly recommend this website. It is very accessible for the girls to do independently at home.
History- A parent from our class shared a lovely resource linked with history which I'll link below. She highlighted that we are all living in what will be looked back in as a massive part of history. This document is a lovely & positive way of documenting the girls experiences through this time & keep for the future to look back on. It is for printing, but I'm sure you could make your own version too if you didn't have access to a printer. This is an optional activity.😊

Scrapbook- A parent in our class has also been documenting day by day what they have been doing at home in a scrapbook. I thought that this was such a lovely idea to share with the class and may interest others. It would also be a gorgeous thing to keep to look back on in the future. I will attach some sample photographs below if you are interested!😄

Hi Everyone! 😊
I hope you are all keeping well during this time.
I have attached a new PDF below which gives plenty of ideas to continue on work at home this week. I have also converted most PowerPoints to PDF format to suit more devices. Unfortunately one of the files cannot be converted, don't worry if you cannot open that one. The purpose of these files will be explained inside the 'Week 3' PDF.
If you have any questions regarding the girls learning or the work above feel free to email me at any time. If your daughters would like to show me some of their work, I would absolutely love to see it. I will also insert an e-gallery of the girls' butterfly drawings if the girls would like to share them with their friends on our class page.

Take care of yourselves, Ms. Buckley. 😄

Audio Books
These are a great & independent way your daughter can listen to stories. Audios engage children imaginations to create their own images of characters and scenes. As an extension task they could even draw how they imagined a character/ a scene from the story.

Hello everyone,
I hope you are all well and taking care of yourselves. Below I have attached a PDF with different activities we do daily in school. It would be great if you could complete some of these with the girls each day. Please do not feel under pressure to complete everything on this list. If you are interested in looking into more options, the home page also has a great list of online websites.
I'm looking forward to seeing you all again soon! :)

Pancake Tuesday
Today was very exciting and we had a lot of fun in the classroom. We worked very hard as a team and made pancakes. To do this we had to combine our skills in English (procedure), Maths (number, weight & capacity) and Science (hot/cold & liquid/solid) together. At the end we were left with some very yummy treats!!

Today we learned all about Road Safety in School.
We now know to :
1: Find a safe place to cross.
2. Don't hurry, stop and wait.
3. Hold onto an adults hand.
4. Look all around and listen.
5. Let all the traffic pass you or wait until it has stopped.
6. Keep watching while you walk safely across onto another path.
We each got high visibility jackets to wear early in the mornings or in the evenings when it begins to get dark.
