We try to maximise physical activity opportunities during our breaktimes and throughout day to help get staff and students moving more. Did you know the daily activity requirement is 60 minutes for children and 30 minutes for adults? We try to achieve some of this time during the school day thorugh the following activities:
active walkway
Our Slí na Sláinte walkway is a wonderful resource to have and there are plenty of activities to do with it including Maths, Geography, Spelling and Mindfulness! The girls in 6th Class help the Junior Infants learn where each of the signs are and all the different ways that it can be used. They can also buddy up with the infants to help them complete the various activities.
Active break every day challenge
At some stage during the year we will participate in this challenge. Each class records their progress on their Active Break Challenge Chart. Activities can include running, dancing, walking the Slí na Sláinte walkway, fun playgrund games
run around europe challenge
A 4 week challenge where all students are encouraged to do a 'Run a Day'. 1 lap = 1km and students can track how far they have run around Europe using the charts provided. Working together as a class, and as a school, our combined km will bring our students to many of the capital cities across Europe.
european school sports day
European School Sports Day (ESSD) is an initiative that aims to promote physical activity on an international level and involve as many children and young people, schools and organisations as possible. In Ireland, ESSD is organised by the Irish Primary PE Association and has involved hundreds of primary school students over the years.
marathon kids
5th and 6th class students will perform four running sessions each week inching them closer to completing their first marathon as well as learning about the benefits of physical activity. Over the course of the 8 weeks the students have the opportunity to run 42km (the distance of a marathon) with the final mile is run in Morton Stadium, Santry.
whole school dance
Each class learns a specific dance routine over a number of weeks and then performs it altogether as a school.
We achieved our Active School Flag by fulfilling the criteria under the following headings. Click a heading to learn more.
