We are the proud recipients of an Active School Flag. The Active School Flag (ASF) is awarded to schools that strive to achieve a physically educated and physically active school community. The process aims to get more schools, more active, more often. Thank you to Ms. Shaughnessy and Ms. Quigg for leading our school and helping us to achieve this. Well done to all the students and teachers for getting involved and taking part in lots of activities.
We achieved our Active School Flag by fulfilling the criteria under the following headings. Click a heading to learn more.
HERE ARE SOME OF THE ACTIVITIES 0UR STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN
Marathon kids
5th & 6th Class have taken part in the Marthon Kids programme. An 8 week programme where the children perform four running sessions each week inching them closer to completing their first marathon as well as learning about the benefits of physical activity. The finale saw the students running their last mile and completing the marathon at the National Cross Country Course located at the National Sports Campus in Dublin 15.
european school sports day
We take part in ESSD every year. We have completed lots of fun activities such as drop everything and dance, mindful walks, games, hurdles, meditation, art and so much more. We love it! European School Sports Day’s mission is to kick off a lifetime of health. We were one of 9,000 schools in Europe that take part✨
active break every day challenge
Class teachers incorporate active breaks into their daily routine.
active walkway
We have a 'Slí na Sláinte' map that lays out our walkway and the different distances we can cover for various activities.
p.e. homework
Teachers assign homework weekly for their classes to help children reach the H.S.E. recommendation of 60 minutes of exercise each day.
school motto
Each year our students come up with a new Active School motto for example, "Ditch the switch, and get on the pitch"
the daily mile
The Daily Mile is a social physical activity, with children running, wheeling or walking – at their own pace – in the fresh air with friends.
drop everything and dance
'Drop Everything and Dance' is when the whole class (or school) literally drop their pencil or book, stop whatever they were doing and start dancing! It is great fun and an excellent way to re-energise and refocus before getting back to work.
