Artist workshop 3: Painting

This Wednesday 18th November, Deirdre was back in with us for another art workshop. We mixed lots of colours using different shades of the primary colours: red, yellow and blue. We then used these new colours we had created to paint our clay figures that we made 2 weeks ago! The finished result is lovely and we will be bringing our clay home soon.

Science Week 2020

This week (9th-13th November) is Science week! As a class we completed an investigation into what would happen if we shook a jar of cream, and we ended up with butter and buttermilk! We added some salt to our butter and ate it with cream crackers. It was lovely!
We have been studying Native Americans during the month of November so we used some of the materials we had collected for art to build some wigwams as a STEM activity. We created some fantastic structures!

Artist Workshop 11th November 2020

Deirdre came to our classroom again this week for another workshop. This week we headed outside to collect some fallen leaves to use in our art. We used these leaves and contact paper to create some autumnal designs. When we stuck our designs on the window they looked like stained glass. We have gotten lots of compliments on our work.

Artist Workshop 4th November 2020

We are so lucky to have artist Deirdre O’Reilly visiting us for the next 6 weeks for art workshops. For week 1 we worked on making 3D figures out of clay.

Work for Home - Monday 30th March

Hi girls!

I hope you're all enjoying time your time off with your families! I've attached some more work to keep you busy for the next week. Again, if there's anything that is too tricky just skip it and come back to it after you've completed the rest of your work.

Ms. Clarke and Ms. Gerrard have also left loads of fun activities that you can do on the 'Learning From Home' tab!

Well done to the girls who have been logging onto Mangahigh, I've assigned more tasks for this week so keep up the good work!

I understand that this time can be quite boring and stressful, but if we all do our bit (wash our hands, social distancing) it will go back to normal soon! :)
If you do feel a little stressed, I've attached some ideas for relaxing mindfulness activities that you could do. Also, there is an idea of a daily routine that you could follow if you find yourself getting bored! Try to keep up hobbies like art, playing board games / cards, baking, cooking, singing and dancing instead of spending too much time on your phones!

I'm going to do a Riddle of the Day everyday this week. Keep checking back every morning for the riddle, the girl who emails me first with the correct answer will win a homework pass when we get back to school :)

I'd love to see all the lovely work you're doing while at home so feel free to email me pictures of art work, projects, reports and any cooking or baking you're doing! Also, if you have any questions you can email me on smcmenaminsjg@gmail.com :) I'll be posting a few activities over the Easter break to keep you busy so keep checking back on the school website over the next few weeks!

Take care and I'll see you all soon!
Ms. McMenamin

Work for Home - Thursday 12th March

 Hi everyone,

I've attached a file with work that can be completed over the next two weeks! If you find anything tricky just skip it and come back to it when you've finished all your work! I've set work on Mangahigh for you to do and I'll be checking who is logging on :)
Remember to keep going with your Paired Reading!
You could also do free writing, create artwork inspired by some of the artists we've looked at so far this year (Picasso, Van Gogh, Keith Haring), write a report on a topic of your choice, cook/ bake something you've done with Ms. Quigg or I've attached some ideas for Active homework! Also, make sure you're helping around the house with chores and looking after younger brothers and sisters!

Take care of yourselves and I'll see you all very soon!

Science for Fun

A big thank you to the Ms Clarke and the parents who came in today to help us work on some fabulous science stations. I think we can say the parents enjoyed it as much as the girls. We had 4 stations-1. Floating and Sinking, 2. Gravity, 3. Acid and bases, 4. Magnetism. The girls learned lots while having a huge amount of fun.

September in 3rd Class

Welcome back to all the girls. We are now in third class in Room 1. Our teacher this year is Ms. Kelly. We are really excited about becoming part of the senior school. A great year ahead!!

A Look Back on Second Class so Far

As June has arrived let's take some time to look back on some of the learning and fun that has taken place in Room 2 since September.

PAIRED READING WITH SENIOR INFANTS

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”
We went into the Senior Infants to help them with their reading. They were so good at helping us to read and loved to talk about the pictures and the stories. Well done girls!

Summer Art

This week we painted summer ice pops. The girls are excellent colour mixers and the finished product was a vibrant sea of colour!
