In First Class, We are Space Superstars!
In First Class, we know have learned lots about space. In fact, we even learned a mnemonic to help us remember all the names of the planets! Look at some of the things we did down below, see if you can spot any First Class Astronauts!
Papier Mache PlanetsWe covered small balloons with newspaper and PVA glue. We had to put lots and lots of layers of paper on the balloons. When they dried, we decorated them to look like either the sun, the earth or the moon.
|
Passports and ProceduresWe wrote procedures about how to make papier mache planets. We also made Inter Galactic Space passports. We added these to our space display with our solar system art. If you look closely, you some astronauts in our class spaceship, or maybe even floating out in space!

Kickboxing Caradh Puts Us Through Our PacesIn February, champion kickboxer, Caradh O' Donovan, came to put us through our paces with some circuit training. We practiced the four exercises in the week leading up to the circuits. We learned how to do push-ups, jumping jacks, mountain climbers and spotty dogs. We had to do each exercise for 2 minutes, before having a break and moving onto the next exercise. It was very tiring but we enjoyed it, and Caradh cheered us on the whole time.

Sinking and Floating
In January we investigated whether different items in our classroom would sink of float based on their shape and weight. We worked with our small groups to make predictions about each item, we then took it in turns to test whether it sank or whether it floated, and recorded our results.

Up For Debate!
This week, First Class have been practicing their debating. We learned that good debators give lots of reasons for their opinions. We were debating whether or not children should get homework,we split into groups, we took some time to make notes and then presented our argument to the rest of the class.
Quote's of the day:
"Why do you like debating?"
"I think children should get a chance to say what they want to say"
" Me too, I want to say what I think about the world.....and I want to go to Trinity!"

Autumn in Room 6
Autumn was a very busy time for all the girls in Room 6. We learned all about squirrells and hedgehogs, we went on a leaf hunt, we dressed up for Halloween and we prepared for our Céile na Samhna. After a very nice mid-term break, we are ready to get ready for more work and fun!
We're Going on a Shape Hunt.....The girls from 1st class have been learning all about squares, circles, triangles, rectangles and semi-circles. Both classes went on a shape walk to try and find shapes in our environment. We used clip-boards and tally sheets, and after we even made a graph to show all the shapes we found!

YOGA
We are doing Yoga once a week. It helps us to relax and we feel really good after it.
"Like reading, yoga allows us to go on a magical journey using our imaginations" |
